The bill that has been introduced was named as Bill AB258 and states that “The commission shall not deny a license to an operator of internet poker.. solely because the operator.. before the effective date of this act, operates, operated or was associated with interstate or foreign commerce.. while licensed in another jurisdiction. A license as an operator or internet poker may be issued by the commission in favor to a person or an affiliate of a person who has been licensed to operate internet poker by a recognized body of another jurisdiction with licensing requirements of this state and who has successfully operated internet poker pursuant to such a license for at least two years before the date on which the application for the license is submitted.”
This move took Nevada to another step forward to online gambling's full regulation with the announcement of a cooperation agreement between the Nevada Gaming Control Board and the Alderney Gaming Control Commission. The fun fact here is that PokerStars is reportedly behind the lobbying efforts in Nevada and that the commission that issues the operating license for Full Tilt Poker is the Alderney Gambling Commission.
Jeff Ifrah – a Washington based lawyer who represents both Poker Stars and FullTilt said that the bill opens up the probability of a merging between founded Nevada casinos and major poker operators offshore. He told the Associated Press that “If the state is serious about raising revenue for this endeavor, then it needs to be able to obtain the participation of the leading operators.”
Limited online betting in – state has been already allowed in Nevada, in the late 2010 the NGC approved a mobile sports wagering platform for Nevada residents.
Provided that the bill has just now been introduced in the State Assembly and has not been ready for debate and amendments, the final form, the final form of the statute may be far similar from what has been introduced. But the standard summary of the bill should be familiar to those who have been following the progress of the same statute in other states.
The bill would legalize online poker in Nevada, however it would not change the status of other online casino games. The bill also contains words that would deny online poker sites existing that have done business in the United States from getting licensed in Nevada.
Some of the reasons why supporters would like intrastate online poker to be regulated is because of the fact that it would definitely bring meaningful revenue into the economy of Nevada and it is believed by many legislators that the Nevada Gaming Commission is in a rare position, having comprehensive gambling regulation experience, to properly manage online gambling. Securities could easily be placed to impede minors from playing and to only permit gambling areas where it could be legitimate.
